Civil Defence Minister Nikki Kaye tonight presented awards to a number of people who have made significant contributions to civil defence emergency management in New Zealand.

“Tonight we recognised people who have been on the ground and in the thick of the action, as emergencies unfolded around them,” says Ms Kaye.

“We also recognised people who have worked tirelessly and passionately to build and improve local civil defence systems and processes.

ACC signs on to free under 13s doctor visits

Health Minister Jonathan Coleman and ACC Minister Nikki Kaye have confirmed ACC’s commitment to free under 13s doctor visits.
“Free doctors’ visits and prescriptions for children aged under six will be extended to children aged under 13 from 1 July 2015,” says Dr Coleman.
“ACC will provide an additional $27.5 million over the next three years,” says Ms Kaye.

Youth Minister Nikki Kaye is pleased to announce that three social enterprise initiatives for young people will receive a total of $835,000 funding under the Youth Enterprise Fund.
“This $2 million fund is all about helping today’s young people become tomorrow’s entrepreneurs, and encouraging initiatives that achieve good social and environmental outcomes is an important part of the fund’s aims,” says Ms Kaye.

More families to get Computers in Homes

Education Minister Hekia Parata and Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye say another 1500 low income families will be provided with computers in 2015/16 through the Computers in Homes programme.
The programme, budgeted to cost $3.04 million in the coming financial year, not only provides low income families with computer but also training, support and, assistance with connection costs.
“The aim is to ensure more low-income families have the opportunity to learn basic computer skills and gain access to the internet,” says Ms Parata.

$20.5m redevelopment for Koru School Mangere
