Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye today announced the site of a new Community Education Hub in Pt Chevalier, Auckland, which will incorporate the relocated Pt Chevalier Kindergarten.
“The Ministry of Education has purchased land for $2.8 million at 90-94 Walmer Road in Pt Chevalier to house the new hub,” says Ms Kaye.
“This is an innovative solution that will free up land at Pt Chevalier school, where the kindergarten is currently located, and provide much needed outdoor space for the school’s growing role.

Over 500,000 Kiwis ready to ShakeOut

More than 500,000 New Zealanders have signed up to take part in New Zealand ShakeOut, our national earthquake drill at 9.15am on 15 October, says Civil Defence Minister Nikki Kaye.
“This is a great start. Our goal is to have at least 1.5 million people signed up for the drill, so eleven weeks out we’re a third of the way there,” says Ms Kaye.
“During the drill, New Zealanders will drop, cover and hold to practise the right actions to take during an earthquake.

Multi-million dollar classrooms opened at Ngaio School, Wellington

Better spinal injury outcomes goal of new policy

Court of Appeal upholds the Ministry’s product liability claim

Education Minister Hekia Parata and Associate Education Minister Nikki Kaye have welcomed today’s judgement from the Court of Appeal about the Ministry of Education’s case against Carter Holt Harvey over leaky school buildings.
In 2013, the Ministry started legal proceedings, on behalf of schools, against Carter Holt Harvey, James Hardie and CSR Building Products Ltd alleging the supply of defective building products.
Ms Parata says settlements have already been reached with James Hardie and CSR.

Courts Minister Amy Adams and ACC Minister Nikki Kaye have today announced further consultation on the proposed Accident Compensation Appeal Tribunal.
“The Government agreed in April 2014 to establish a new Accident Compensation Appeal Tribunal to replace two existing appeals bodies. The proposal was part of a package of reforms aimed at updating and modernising the justice system. The new tribunal process is expected to be faster, while still maintaining a fair process, and will have greater flexibility in resourcing,” Ms Adams says.

“This fund is unique because it supports projects designed and led by young people themselves, either working alone or in partnership with youth organisations,” says Ms Kaye.
“As well as benefiting their communities, this helps young people between the ages of 12 and 24 develop decision-making and leadership skills.
